Previous research well documented that mental health status varies by socioeconomic positions. However, previous health disparity research primarily focused on physical health and not much is known about mental health disparity. Further, much less is known about whether the effects of socioeconomic status on depression vary across lifespan. In order to address these limitations, this study aims to examine mental health disparity across lifespan using a nationally representative sample participated in the Korean Welfare Panel Study. The data were analysed through GLM model using SPSS 15. Results showed that depressive symptoms varied by gender, income, and education, replicating previous research findings on health disparity. Similar to the results of physical health disparity studies, the size of disparity tended to vary by age, indicating that the effects of the socioeconomic variables on depression varied across lifespan. These findings suggest that policy-makers and practitioners should consider age variations in mental health across lifespan. Based on the findings, both research limitations and implications for future research were discussed.
